Acupuncture
Medical acupuncture uses fine, sterile needles in selected areas of the body. It draws on Western medicine and knowledge of anatomy and the nervous system.
At your appointment, I will ask about your symptoms and assess the areas that may be contributing to them. We will discuss whether acupuncture is suitable, what it may help with and any risks before treatment.
Medical acupuncture may offer short-term relief for chronic low back pain and neck pain. Where appropriate, I may combine it with osteopathic treatment or exercise advice.
What is Medical Acupuncture?
Medical acupuncture, also called Western medical acupuncture, uses needles within an approach based on modern anatomy, physiology and clinical assessment. Traditional Chinese acupuncture developed from a different system of medicine.
I qualified as an osteopath in 2007. Medical acupuncture and electro-acupuncture are among the treatment options we can consider together after I’ve assessed your symptoms.
We will discuss the expected benefits, possible risks and other options before deciding whether to include acupuncture in your care.

Your appointment includes an assessment and a discussion of whether medical acupuncture is appropriate for you.
Medical acupuncture can be used alongside osteopathic treatment and other manual techniques where appropriate. The combination of techniques used will depend on your individual assessment and treatment plan.
Medical acupuncture may involve targeting sensitive areas within muscles, sometimes known as trigger points, using fine sterile needles.
