Eastbourne Acupuncture

Welcome to my clinic. I take pride in offering many years worth of experience in Osteopathy and Medical Acupuncture and Electro-Acupuncture. Each patient treatment is tailored to the individual needs of you, the patient.

Medical Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions. It involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific trigger points or tight bands of muscles, tendons, or connective tissues.

Unlike Chinese acupuncture, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine and aims to balance the body's energy flow, Medical Acupuncture is rooted in Western medicine and neuroanatomy. The goal of Medical Acupuncture is to release muscle tension, decrease pain, and improve range of motion by targeting trigger points, which are hypersensitive areas within the muscle that may cause pain or refer pain to other parts of the body.

During a Medical Acupuncture session at my Eastbourne Acupuncture clinic, I identify trigger points based on the your symptoms and with a physical assessment. A thin needle is then inserted into the targeted area, aiming to elicit a "twitch response" or a brief involuntary muscle contraction. This twitch response helps release the tension in the muscle and promote relaxation.

Medical Acupuncture can be effective in treating various musculoskeletal conditions, such as myofascial pain syndrome, muscle strains, tendonitis, joint pain, headaches, and back pain. It is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may include Osteopathy, exercise and other modalities.

What is Medical Acupuncture?

Medical acupuncture, commonly known in the UK as "western medical acupuncture", distinguishes itself from traditional Chinese acupuncture. This contemporary adaptation has been tailored to fit the framework of modern medical practices and is rooted in current scientific understanding rather than ancient philosophies.

Practitioners of medical acupuncture integrate our extensive medical knowledge with the application of acupuncture as a therapeutic intervention. In the UK, medical acupuncture is practised by trained professionals such as doctors, osteopaths, and physiotherapists, ensuring a blend of western medical diagnosis with acupuncture techniques.

Medical acupuncture has been credited with offering relief for a myriad of health issues. At Eastbourne Osteopathy we primarily use it for its benefits in addressing musculoskeletal pain, including back, neck, and shoulder discomfort. Beyond pain relief, medical acupuncture can also play a pivotal role in managing stress, improving sleep quality, and supporting overall well-being. It's no wonder that many individuals are turning to this integrated approach for holistic health solutions.
