Shoulder pain in Eastbourne

Shoulder pain can make reaching, lifting, dressing or sleeping uncomfortable. At Eastbourne Osteopathy, I assess shoulder symptoms and discuss whether osteopathic care is suitable for you. You do not need to have a diagnosis before making an appointment.

When to seek medical help

Seek an urgent GP appointment or NHS 111 advice for sudden severe shoulder pain, inability to move the arm, marked swelling or deformity, persistent numbness, or feeling feverish and unwell. Pain after an injury may also need urgent assessment. Call 999 for sudden arm pain with chest pressure, heaviness or squeezing.

What might be contributing?

Shoulder symptoms can involve muscles, tendons or joints. Frozen shoulder and arthritis are possible causes of persistent stiffness, while some symptoms may relate to the neck. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so an assessment is more useful than trying to diagnose yourself from a list.

Your assessment

I will ask when the symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, and how they affect your daily activities. We will discuss relevant medical history before an appropriate examination. I will explain my findings and whether treatment, self-management advice or further medical assessment is appropriate.

Treatment and management

Where osteopathic treatment is suitable, we will agree an individual plan. This may include manual techniques and advice about movement and exercise. I will explain the options and obtain your consent. The approach and progress vary between people; a fixed number of appointments or a particular outcome cannot be promised.

Visiting the Eastbourne clinic

The clinic is at Natural Fitness and Therapies, Royal Parade, Eastbourne BN22 7AQ, on the seafront promenade beside the Redoubt Fortress. Appointments are available Monday to Thursday.

Initial appointments cost £70 for approximately 60 minutes. Follow-ups cost £60 for approximately 30 minutes.
